Genuinely International
My name is Carol Incarnacao-Schirm and I was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Early on, I displayed a panache for all things international as I excelled in mastering multiple languages. By my early teenage years, in addition to my native Portuguese language, I had become fluent in English, and had an advanced proficiency in both Spanish, and French. I did not become confidently fluent in French until I studied in Paris at the Institute Catholique de Paris during college where I took daily language lessons and assumed the lead in communicating while exploring the city with my friends.
I moved to the United States when I was fourteen, just a few months before starting High School. It took very little time for me to become completely adept to the new lifestyle and culture in southeast Florida. It helped that, during the first year or so, I befriended a large group of Brazilians who lived in my area and attended my school.
After graduating from High School, I fully embraced American culture by partaking in the traditional move away to college. This independent only child moved to Tallahassee, in northern Florida, after visiting it only once. In four short years, I experienced yet another drastic change in environment, culture and lifestyle, as southeast and northern Florida might as well be two different states.
Settling in New York City did not happen by accident. It reflects my multinational and dynamic personality and background, and it has also helped me remain closer than I have ever been in all of these years living in the U.S. to my Brazilian roots, while simultaneously allowing me to experience others.
Currently, I am working on a large international litigation and arbitration case as a contract attorney for a top global law firm.
When I am not working, you can find me volunteering, exploring the city, traveling, or catching a movie, a play, a show or a performance of any kind.
